P006 → CITIZEN K AND SOLDIER

2023

Citizen K and the Soldier explores a dystopian future defined by the outbreak of an airborne virus in an era where global warming and viral threats intertwine. Drawing inspiration from Michel Foucault’s concept of “biopolitics,” the project questions the delicate balance between collective security and individual freedom.

The project introduces two key characters: the Patrol, representing collective security, and Citizen K, symbolizing individual freedom. Together, they embody the tension between safety and personal rights in the face of global warming and viral threats. The project aims to provoke deeper reflection on how to balance collective well-being with personal liberties.

The project establishes a future worldview in the form of speculative fiction and gives the audience an experience through a conceptual short film.
At the heart of this new world order are the 'Aetherial Sentinels,' air purification entities symbolizing an omnipresent regime of control and surveillance. These Sentinels, more than mere functional guardians, embody the complex dynamics between human governance and technological dominance.

The Sentinels, depicted as cold, unyielding cybernetic doves, patrol the city.
Their interactions with residents range from identity scanning to enforcing strict behavioral norms, underlining the erosion of personal privacy and autonomy.Doves, traditionally symbols of peace and purity, elicited panic during the avian flu crisis, demonstrating how symbolic meanings can transform in specific socio-cultural contexts.
This transformation becomes a powerful visual language in the project, expressing the complexity of beliefs and symbols during a crisis, as well as the evolution of group behavior and collective psychology.
